Michael Annett on racing at O'Reilly Raceway Park Speedway: Racing in Indianapolis is so cool. The entire city rallies around these race tracks and makes it so fun for both the teams and fans. It is like a huge party every night. I am excited about racing on both Thursday and Friday night. The Silver Crown cars are so different than anything else I have driven. They have so much power and you can really be aggressive with your line. I have been excited about this week for months now. ORP is one of the best tracks on the NASCAR circuit. It reminds me of racing at the local short tracks in the Mid- West. You show up practice, qualify, and race all in one day. The fans show up early and stay all day. I know Doug [Wolcott] and all the guys on this Pilot Travel Center’s Tundra will bring a truck that will run up front. We just need to stay out of trouble all day and get to the final 30 laps and then go for the win. Marital Status: Single Hometown: Des Moines, Iowa Children: None Hobbies: Hockey, Boating, Golfing Website: www.michaelannett.com Michael Annett grew up in the Midwest with dreams of becoming a famous athlete. His dreams have finally come true, but it is not the vision he had as a young boy. Growing up, Annett dreamed of being a professional hockey player. It was not until he reached the age of 18 that Annett first got behind the wheel of a racecar. Growing up in Iowa, Annett had a knack for stick-and-ball sports. At age six, he started going to the local hockey rink to play pickup games with other children. As timed passed, Annett caught the eye of regional and national hockey talent scouts, and his hockey career really started to blossom. When he was 16, the Iowa native joined Team Illinois, a tier one AAA team, and led them to the 2002 Calgary Mac’s AAA Hockey Tournament Championship. After a successful season with Team Illinois in which he led the league in penalty minutes, Annett joined the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League. He won the league’s 2004 Most Improved Player Award in his rookie season. Annett stayed with the team for two seasons and helped it win two consecutive Clark Cup Championships. At the end of the 2005 season, Annett decided to trade his hockey skates for a steering wheel. Annett wanted a new challenge and had always been interested in auto racing. He competed in his first late model race in 2006 and instantly fell in love. He knew right then he had a passion for racing and wanted to make it his career. He was a quick learner and was willing to take risks both on and off the race track. He made his first few stock car starts behind the wheel of an ASA Late Model North Series machine. He made a quick study of the short tracks in the Northeast and finished in the top 10 several times, including a best finish of second at Columbus (Wis.) Speedway. In 2007, Annett tried his luck in the ARCA RE-MAX Series. In four ARCA starts, the Iowa native brought home two top-five finishes and four top-10 finishes. Annett captured the pole in his first ARCA start at Iowa Speedway in June. He made Bill Davis Racing and Toyota history in October by bringing both parties their first ARCA RE-MAX victory with the Camry at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. In 2008, Annett again joins forces with Bill Davis Racing in the driver development program. The young driver made five starts in the ARCA RE/MAX Series earlier this year and compiled one win and four top- ten finishes. Annett’s success has prompted Bill Davis to hand him the keys of the No. 22 Toyota Tundra. The future looks very bright for Michael Annett. His dream of becoming a famous athlete has come to fruition, and he is now truly living his dream. |
