Annett Bristol Bound

Race Release posted on 03/18/2009

Mooresville, N.C. (March 18, 2009) – With a two-week break in the NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule, Michael Annett and his Germain Racing team have spent the off weeks working hard in their Mooresville race shop preparing the No. 15 Pilot Travel Centers/HYPE Energy Drinks Toyota Camry for the Scotts Turf Builder 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway. The team is enthusiastic about racing at the “World’s Fastest Half Mile” in Bristol, Tenn. on Saturday and has expectations of a notable performance in Saturday’s race.

“We’ve used the off weeks to get our fleet back together,” said Bruce Cook, Crew Chief of the No. 15 Germain Racing Toyota Camry. “Our car for Bristol was ready at the start of the break, but we were able to use the time during these two weeks to fine tune it with the use of the seven post machine so that we could prepare the car as best as possible for Michael’s Bristol run.”

Driver Michael Annett commented, “The seven post helped us to be one step ahead before we even get to the track. The machine allowed us to experience what a lap at Bristol will actually feel like and get an understanding of how the car will ride.”

Cook replied, “Bristol is a survival game, so anything that will benefit us in preparation for race day we are going to take advantage of. Our goal for this race is to leave in one piece and get into the points race. I’m confident we can do it. All we need is one good run.”

Annett also looks forward to returning to Bristol after a seventh place finish in his last race at the half mile track in the ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division.  In August 2007 he drove the TMC Transportation sponsored No. 12 late model for his father Harrold Annett. After pulling the No. 12 from the starting line-up of the ASALMS Crate American 200 at Bristol to make suspension changes, Annett advanced 25 positions up from a 32nd place start to finish seventh. His top-ten finish at Bristol gives him confidence in driving the No. 15 Germain Racing Pilot Travel Centers/HYPE Energy Drinks Toyota Camry in Saturday’s Nationwide Series race.

Annett stated, “I’m really excited about running on one of NASCAR’s most popular tracks. With no short track races under our belt this season, Bristol will be a good test for our team to see what kind of short track package we have.”

At the start of his trip to Bristol, Annett will visit his sponsor, Pilot Travel Centers, at their headquarters in nearby Knoxville, Tenn. As a primary sponsor of the No. 15 Germain Racing Toyota Camry, Pilot Travel Centers has backed Annett for three consecutive years and has continued their support through the 2009 season. To show his appreciation for their commitment to his success, Annett will meet with some of Pilot’s employees at their headquarters on Thursday, to thank the entire Pilot Travel Centers Team.

“I can’t even begin to show the amount of appreciation I have for Pilot Travel Centers and their partnership. Their support over the past three years has been amazing, so I’m excited that I’ll be able to share my gratitude with them during my visit to headquarters. It’s great to get to meet those who allow us to go to the track each week,” said Annett.

Race fans will have the opportunity to meet Annett and obtain his autograph at two special events surrounding the race weekend in Bristol.
He will sign autographs at the Food City Family Race Night on Thursday, March 19 at the Knoxville Expo Center from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET. A second night of Food City’s fan fest will take place right on Bristol Motor Speedway grounds where Annett will sign autographs and greet fans from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. ET.

The Scotts Turf Builder 300 will be broadcast live on ABC at 2 p.m. EDT on Saturday, March 21 with NASCAR Nationwide Series qualifying starting at 9:40 a.m. EDT and airing at 12 p.m. EDT on SPEED. The first of two practice sessions on Friday, March 20 can be viewed at 1:30 p.m. EDT on SPEED and final practice starting at 5 p.m. EDT.
