Michael Davis Named Trainer of the Month for March 2017
Mike started with TMC in October 2013 and has been training since January 2015. After getting settled into his role as a driver, he took an early interest to the idea of becoming a trainer. “It was just something I wanted to do,” Mike says. “I felt like I had a good handle on the job and would be able to show others how to do it.”
Meeting and working with different people is one of Mike’s favorite parts of training new drivers. “No one is the same, so it’s always a new experience,” he says. Mike works to adjust his training style to the different personalities of whoever he is training. “Everyone is in a different situation when they come on to the job, so it’s all about working with them to make it a good experience.”
“Mike focuses on being consistent with the same methods and standards that our trainees learn in orientation,” says Jeff Geist, Training Coordinator Manager. “He works toward their success by giving them the opportunity to do the work and learn to think for themselves.”
While Mike says he does take a hands-on approach to his training, he also tries to make sure he doesn’t hand out all the answers. “There are times you have to make quick decisions, and knowing how to respond in those situations is important,” he says.
When it’s all said and done, Mike enjoys seeing his drivers be successful. “I really like seeing people make it,” he says. “It feels good to see them benefit from the job once they get in their own truck and get going.”

Driver trainers are vital to the TMC training department, and each month a trainer is chosen who demonstrates the outstanding qualities TMC looks for in a trainer. The Trainer of the Month recipient is chosen based on their safety record and the safety performance of their trainees, the number of drivers trained and the retention percentage of those drivers. Congratulations to our March 2017 Trainer of the Month, Michael Davis!
