Meet TMC's Trainer of the Month for April 2018: Ken Moyer!

by Justyn Hardy on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 in Awards & Recognition

Ken started his professional driving career with TMC in September 2015. He was at a crossroads in his life where he wasn’t sure what he was going to do for work. “I saw a TMC truck out on the road one day and thought, ‘I want to drive one of those,’” Ken says. “I applied and here I am today.”

Coming to TMC after working for a family business was an easy transition for Ken. “We expected honesty and hard work, and TMC seemed to run things the same way,” he says. “I had training experience and always enjoyed that role before, so after a year with TMC I started training.”

Ken does his best to teach core values in this training. “I tell my trainees that it’s all about safety, and I try to make the whole experience as comfortable as possible,” he says. Ken also encourages his guys to help out others whenever they can. “Be the courteous person that goes the extra mile to lend a hand, even if it’s to someone from another company.”

For those interested in training, Ken offers a simple suggestion. “If you want to be a trainer, do it to make the roads a safer place,” he says. “There are a lot of new drivers on the road these days, and we all need to remember that we were young and leaning once too.”

Finally, Ken credits part of his training success to his trainer he had when he started at TMC. “He’s one of my dearest friends now and he instilled the core values of what training is about to me.” Ken credits the rest of his success to the company itself. “TMC has been awesome to me and that is why I want to give back,” he says. “I love driving trucks and I want to show new drivers how cool it can be.”

Driver trainers are vital to the TMC training department, and each month a trainer is chosen who demonstrates the outstanding qualities TMC looks for in a trainer. The Trainer of the Month recipient is chosen based on their safety record and the safety performance of their trainees, the number of drivers trained and the retention percentage of those drivers. Congratulations to our April 2018 Trainer of the Month, Kenneth Moyer Jr.!
