A Look Back at 2016...
As 2016 comes to an end and a new year is upon us, we want to take a moment recap a few of the moments that made this past year special.
As we ushered in the New Year, we proudly introduced Curtis Rasnake Jr. as TMC’s Trainer of the Year for 2015. Curtis also celebrated 10 years with the company in 2016.
In the spring, long-time driver, Derek Boykin, was named as the 2015 Wheel Master, a prestigious award recognizing only the best of the best TMC drivers. Boykin was honored at TMC’s annual Wheel Master meeting that took place at our Des Moines headquarters.

Hiring military veterans is a cause that is close to our hearts, so being named both as a 2017 Military Friendly® Employer by Victory Media and a 2016 Most Valuable Employer For Military® Winner by CivilianJobs.com was an incredible honor.
In April, TMC was honored with the Platinum Carrier Award by Lowe’s. This award is especially commendable as it is TMC’s first Platinum Level distinction by Lowe’s. On top of that, TMC was also named Lowe’s Flatbed Carrier of the Year for 2015.
This early summer, TMC was recognized by Alcoa with Tier 1 Core Carrier and Flatbed Carrier of the Year. This is the ninth time TMC had earned this distinction.
June 8th was the official one-year anniversary of the TMC CDL Program. We have received a positive response this past year and are looking forward to growing the program in the years to come.
TMC was proud to have had driver Mario Cardenas representing the company at the Trucking’s Top Rookie Contest at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, Texas in September. Mario was among the top ten rookie drivers nominated for this award.
Our annual Driver Appreciation Week festivities took place in September. This year we had our upper management hit the road to visit our drivers at various customer locations. All week long, we honored our drivers with gifts, giveaways, activities and plenty of free food.
Once again this year TMC was present in full force at the annual Special Olympics Convoy in our own back yard here in Des Moines. We had 20 drivers and their families from all over the country participate in the convoy that benefits athletes of the Special Olympics of Iowa.
October marked our third anniversary of becoming an employee-owned company. The entire month was filled with exciting events and activities for our employee-owners to participate in.
UFP Eastern Division, a division of Universal Forest Products, Inc., announced in October that TMC Transportation has been named as its Carrier of the Year for 2016.
National Apprenticeship Week took place at the end of November, during which we highlighted our certified Apprenticeship program.
In December TMC was in Washington, D.C. attending the ceremony where the winner for the 2016 Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence Award was announced. Our own rookie driver who is also an Army veteran, Kevin Scott, was awarded first runner up and $10,000.

As the holidays approached, TMC saved Christmas by delivering Santa’s sleigh just in the nick of time!
