International Road Check Week
International Road Check Week, presented by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), will be effective from Wednesday, Sept 9 until Friday, Sept 11, 2020. This year’s Road Check Week will focus on the Driver’s requirements for a roadside inspection. This three-day emphasis on safety and compliance will be overlapped by Labor Day weekend celebrations. Labor Day weekend brings increased traffic, and is has some of the most fatal traffic incidents in many states. Law enforcement will be out in full force this weekend watching for any reckless and/or drunk driving.
To limit any violations, be sure to check for any taillight, brake light, turn signal, marker light, headlight, and daytime running light outages before operating the vehicle. Other vital things to check for are poor securement, tarp jobs, lack of visible securement against forward movement, and lack of belly straps (when required).
Here are a few other tips to be safe out on the roads the next 8 days:
- Be aware of your surroundings
- Use caution when switching lanes or backing up
- Give yourself plenty of room and time to react
- Obey the posted speed limits; do not give the DOT a reason to pull you over!
Be courteous when you see flashing lights on the side of the road, slow down and move over. Be safe out there this weekend and next week!
