Kicking Off National Apprenticeship Week 2016

National Apprenticeship Week 2016 kicks off today and runs through November 20th. The Apprenticeship model allows workers learn new skills on-the-job while being paid, helping to ease the transition to a new career. This model often provides a much quicker path to high-paying jobs, without the length and cost of a traditional college education.

TMC was the first trucking company in Iowa to have our Apprenticeship program approved by the Department of Labor as a certified Heavy Truck Driver Apprenticeship. We have been committed to hiring recent graduates of truck driving schools with no experience for over twenty years, and first year drivers with TMC average $55,000/year with great benefits after mere weeks of training. Our program is also approved for the GI Bill®, allowing eligible military veterans to draw on their education benefits for up to two years.

TMC driver Kevin Scott, a top three finalist for the Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence award, had this to say about the TMC Apprenticeship program, “The training program here at TMC is second to none. Whenever I finished, I had no doubt in my mind on how to master the skills required for the job. With the help of my trainer George Worthy and TMC's training methods, it helped pave my way to success.”

Our Apprenticeship program teaches recent graduates of CDL schools how to be successful in their new careers, and provides flatbed training to experienced drivers that have no previous flatbed experience. Recently, TMC has also starting their own in-house CDL training program to additionally help bridge the skills gap for those that are interested in a career as a professional truck driver.
