TMC Recruiting Focuses on Driver Success

on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 in Company News

TMC Transportation's Driver Recruiting department met up for its annual conference last Thursday and Friday. The conference serves as an opportunity to get additional training and company updates to improve their performance and get focused in on upcoming goals. TMC Transportation's Ankeny, Iowa facility holds several in-house driver recruiters, in addition to six field recruiters that travel to truck driving schools and hiring events all over the eastern half of the country. The Driver Recruiting conference is a great opportunity for them to get through to a TMC terminal and reconnect with others.

The conference kicked off Thursday morning with a presentation by Mark Sickmiller, the Driver Development Manager at TMC. Mark outlined the Total Quality Management class the drivers take to learn the fundamentals of TMC’s business and how they can improve their performance (which in turn affects their pay). Mark plans to teach the class at various terminals starting in 2016, making it easier for all drivers to take the course regardless of how close they live to a specific terminal. Later that afternoon, Lukas Rold, Dedicated Operations Manager, taught the field recruiters how to create SPC (Statistical Process Control) charts and analyze data to improve their performance. TMC Recruiting wrapped up the day with an all department meeting discussing goals for the upcoming year, followed by a BBQ dinner.

The recruiters were back at it Friday morning with an update from TMC Operations. Tim Heim, Vice President of Operations; Damon Gehrels, Vice President of Dedicated Operations; and Tiffany Hoeck, Vice President of Customer Service gave an overview of freight and customer accounts for 2015 and their goals for 2016. Immediately following, all the recruiters were on hand to congratulate the latest Driver Orientation graduates and to wish them well as they start the next phase of their training.

After a brief lunch break, Steve Linder, Vice President of IT,  demonstrated the upcoming TMC mobile app and it's features. Field recruiters ended their day with a final wrap-up meeting with management.
