TMC's 2018 Year in Review
Another year has come and gone, and what a year it was! For TMC, 2018 brought continued growth and excitement for the years to come! As we look forward to 2019, we also want to reflect on the great things that made this past year one to remember.
We started by highlighting some of TMC’s best! We rang in the New Year with the announcement of Gary Hendrickson as our Trainer of the Year for 2017. Gary has been a professional truck driver with TMC for nearly nine years, seven and a half of which he has been training. He received the Trainer of the Month award twice in that time, in April 2014 and May 2017.
The Wheel Master award is the highest driver honor given at TMC, and is based on years of service with the company, safe driving record and overall quality of performance. Herb House was named as the 2017 Wheel Master, and he was honored at TMC’s annual Wheel Master Meeting at our Des Moines headquarters.
TMC Transportation was named The Home Depot’s Flatbed Carrier of the Year for 2017, making it four years in a row of earning this distinction.
We were also recognized as a Partner-level supplier for the 2017 fiscal year in the John Deere Achieving Excellence Program*, making it the fifth straight year TMC has been awarded the merit. *Page 6 in link.
It is a well-known fact that TMC has a long standing tradition of commitment to hiring our nation's heroes, and we were honored to announce that these efforts earned us a Top 10 2019 Military Friendly ® Employer designation!
In August, two TMC drivers traveled to the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, TX to be recognized in and learn the results of two nationally recognized driver contests. Mordaunt “Platt” Brabner and Tilford Sereal were both top 10 finalists in the military veteran based Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence award program.
Platt was also a top 10 finalist in the Trucking’s Top Rookie program, and was announced as the WINNER at the Great American Trucking Show.
Our annual Driver Appreciation Week festivities took place in September. All week long, we honored our drivers with gifts, giveaways, activities and plenty of free food.
Also in September, TMC had the special opportunity to help Eugene VanMeter, a Military veteran and retired truck driver residing in an assisted living facility in Joplin, MO cross off his ultimate bucket list item—drive a big rig again!
Another event that is near and dear to the drivers of TMC is the Special Olympics of Iowa World’s Largest Truck Convoy. This is a benefit put on by the Special Olympics of Iowa in early October.
TMC has been built on a foundation of PRIDE since day one over 46 years ago, a foundation that was solidified when founder and CEO, Harrold Annett, gave the company back to his hardworking employees in 2013. This year marked five years of TMC being an employee-owned company!
In December, Platt Brabner traveled to Washington D.C. for the announcement of the winner of the Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence award. He was named as the third runner-up in the contest and took home $5,000.
And finally, at the end of it all, we remember that there is nothing like family during the holiday season. All roads lead home.
2018 was a year for the books! We have plenty to look forward to in the year ahead, and we hope you will continue the journey with us. Happy New Year!
