Roadcheck 2013

Roadcheck 2013 runs from June 4th-June 6th this year. It is an annual event by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance and is the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial vehicles in the world. Load securement is the focus of this year’s campaign. The CVSA has provided a helpful checklist on what to watch for that you can view here. Some issues they’ll be checking for will be:

Condition and Maintenance of Truck
Drivers need to complete their pre-trips carefully to make sure everything on the truck is in perfect condition including:

-Coupling Devices (5th Wheel)
-Fuel and Exhaust Systems
-Frame and Body Components
-Lighting Devices
-Securement of Cargo
-Steer Mechanism
-Tires and Wheels

Driver Documents
Drivers must have their CDL and medical card with them at all times, and make sure their permit books and log books are in order, up-to-date, and ready to present.

The Top Roadside Violations:
-Log Book Issues 
Common log book violations include drivers either exceeding the 11 hour maximum drive time or 14 hour maximum work time, or not being able to present logs for the required last 7 days.
-Non-possession of a medical certificate
-No, or defective, lighting devices or reflective material, as required.
-Required lamps are inoperative
-Tire tread depth of less than 2/32-inch
-Oil or grease leaks
-Inspection or repair and maintenance of parts and accessories.

The Top Out-of-Service Violations
-Inoperative turn signals
-Flat tire or exposed fabric
-Inadequate brake tubing and hoses
-Inspection or repair and maintenance of parts and accessories.
-Log Book Issues - No record of duty status or false reports of driver record of duty status.
