Derek Boykin Named Driver of the First Quarter for 2015

TMC Transportation recently named Derek Boykin as the Driver of the First Quarter for 2015. In his 18 years with TMC, Derek has certainly made a name for himself. He has passed the two million safe driving mile marker and is quickly approaching three million.

Now a seasoned industry veteran, Derek is considered one of the best of the best in the pool of TMC’s talented drivers. He’s worked hard over the years to get where he’s at today, and is determined to stay at the top.  “You have to be dedicated. Take charge and be a leader, not a follower,” he says. “It is important to treat every day like it is your first day. Never act like you know everything because there is always something new to learn.”

“To be successful at this company you have to get up and get out there. Every day is a new day. Only stay mad for five minutes, and then make sure you stay focused on your goals,” says Derek.

Being a successful driver requires one to understand that working in the trucking industry does not entail what a typical ‘nine to five’ job would. Derek, however, wouldn’t have it any other way. “I couldn’t go back to a regular job. I like the freedom,” he explains. “TMC has given me a fair shake in the industry. Good salary, benefits and they’ve always treated me like family, which is everything I could ask for.”

Those at TMC value Derek and the time and dedication he has given to the company. “I’m thrilled to see [Derek] as the Driver of the Quarter. He is an 18 year driver that has more hustle than anyone else I’ve worked with,” says his Fleet Manager, Dylan Miller. “He gets to every destination before anyone else and has a sterling safety record, which proves that managing your time to its full potential every day will yield success. ‘All money ain’t good money’ is a lesson that Derek taught me. He is certainly the ideal representative for TMC and the type of guy from which all drivers can learn something. Congratulations, Derek!”

Criteria for Driver of the Quarter recognition includes years of service with the company, safe driving record, excellent customer service, professionalism and overall quality performance. Once a driver is recognized as a Driver of the Quarter they are eligible to receive the prestigious Wheel Master Award.
