TMC’s Hiring Requirements
If you want to drive for TMC, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:
- 23 years of age or older
- Live in our hiring area
- No more than three moving violations in the last five years, and no DUIs in the last ten years
- Five years of verifiable work history in any industry
- Able to pass a DOT physical exam and perform the essential functions of the job
Flatbed Training Schedule
Our 12-day flatbed training program will get you ready to tackle life on the road, even if you don’t have recent Class A driving experience. Here’s how it works:
- Four days of classroom instruction.
- Three days of hands-on load securement training.
- Five days of equipment familiarization, driving and backing instruction, and training in how to complete a thorough DOT pre-trip inspection.
- You’ll spend the next four weeks in over-the-road training with one of our experienced driver trainers, who will help you master the hands-on skills you need to succeed as a flatbed driver.
- Then you’ll start your career as a TMC flatbed driver!

How long is TMC’s flatbed training program?
Our flatbed training program for recent CDL grads and drivers with no experience is 12 days long. You’ll also spend four weeks in over-the-road training with an experienced driver trainer.
Do I need to have my CDL already?
The first step to starting your career with TMC is having your CDL. If you don’t have your CDL, you can get it through our paid CDL training or through a local driving school.
How old do I have to be to drive for TMC?
You must be 23 years of age or older to drive for TMC.
How many years of work history do I need to provide on my application?
Please provide the last five years of your work history, with contact information for each employer. Note that this includes both driving jobs and jobs in other industries.
What if my driving record isn’t perfect?
We understand that mistakes happen. We require drivers we hire to have no more than three moving violations in the last five years, and no DUIs in the last ten years.
I have some driving experience, but it is from a few years ago. Is this training program right for me?
This training program is designed for drivers who have under three months’ Class A driving experience within the last five years. It will help you refresh and polish your skills so you’re ready to start a career as a flatbed driver. Will I get home during my over-the-road training?
Yes, most trainees get home every weekend.
Does TMC require any endorsements on my CDL?
In general, no—but New York residents will need to test for and obtain the metals endorsement.
