Meet Trainer of August 2018, TMC Driver Dwayne Radford

on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 in Awards & Recognition

Dwayne has been a professional driver for TMC since May 2008. He knew it would be a good fit for him after speaking with a recruiter towards the end of his schooling. “He spoke about performance pay and I really liked the idea of being rewarded for working hard,” Dwayne says.

After driving by himself for three years, Dwayne decided to take on the Driver Training role. “If new drivers learn the job the right way, it encourages them to stay longer and keep working for TMC,” he says. Along with this, Dwayne enjoys helping people and seeing them succeed. “This is a hard job and everyone has bad days. If you stick with it, you will see it become an excellent career.”

“Dwayne focuses on details when training and tries to adapt his training to each particular trainee,” says Jeff Geist, Training Coordinator Manager.

“I work alongside my trainees and work just as hard as they do,” Dwayne says. “I keep things light-hearted when I can and try to help them feel comfortable, even when they make mistakes. I really enjoy it because I believe in this industry, there is always something to learn, and the success of the company depends on new drivers absorbing everything they can.”

Along with his new title of ‘Trainer of the Month,’ Dwayne is a Million Mile Driver. He credits his driving success in part to being a trainer, and says he wouldn’t be in the position is he today without the support of trainees past and present.

“Training has made me a better driver, and I feel that I improve with each new trainee.” He also applauds the team he has behind him. “My dispatcher, trainer dispatcher, and my entire support group have been there for me since the beginning. It really is a team effort.”

Driver trainers are vital to the TMC Training Department, and each month a trainer is chosen who demonstrates the outstanding qualities TMC looks for in a trainer. The Trainer of the Month recipient is chosen based on their safety record and the safety performance of their trainees, the number of drivers trained and the retention percentage of those drivers. Congratulations to our August 2018 Trainer of the Month, Dwayne Radford!
