Meet Trainer of December 2018, Joshua Deeds!

on Thursday, January 17, 2019 in Awards & Recognition

In the ten years that Josh has been with TMC, he has made quite the reputation for himself. As some may recall, this is not the first time he has received recognition for his great work at TMC. After he first started training in 2010, Josh was named Trainer of the Month about a year later in 2011. Shortly after, he took a break from training to help with family matters back home.

His most recent recognition was being named a Driver of the Third Quarter in 2017. Soon thereafter, Josh decided it was time to pick up training again. He hasn’t turned back since. This second recognition goes to show he hasn’t skipped a beat!

While he is working with trainees, Josh focuses on the most basic, yet essential, parts of the job. “Being safe and practicing good time management are two of the most important aspects of this job,” he says. “To instill those values, I encourage drivers to get out and look (G.O.A.L.) and to always communicate with their Fleet Managers.”

Josh considers himself to be laid back when it comes to training. “When trainees first get in the truck, I’m more hands-on in teaching to make sure they are doing things correctly,” he says. “Once they are more comfortable, I stand back and let them take the lead.”

In the long run, Josh just wants to see his trainees succeed and keep seeing success. “I want to help them better themselves while doing this job so they can meet their personal goals, such as home time and providing for their families.”

He gives credit to recruiter Todd Cooper for bringing him to TMC. “He’s a great and truthful guy,” says Josh. “He really sold me on working here and TMC has come through on everything he promised me."

Driver trainers are vital to the TMC Training Department, and each month a trainer is chosen who demonstrates the outstanding qualities TMC looks for in a trainer. The Trainer of the Month recipient is chosen based on their safety record and the safety performance of their trainees, the number of drivers trained and the retention percentage of those drivers. Congratulations to our December 2018 Trainer of the Month, Joshua Deeds!
