Logistcs Association of the Quarter: Sean Degoey
As a Senior Logistics Sales Representative (SrLSR), Sean Degoey is expected to produce large numbers, but Sean says, “Producing large numbers is not enough. Growth across the board is the goal.” Sean’s growth through the third quarter of 2022 (Q3 2022) has been significant. Sean progressively increases his load count, revenue, and margin as he continues to bring in new business to TMC while both maintaining and growing his existing customers.
Sean’s impact has been significant throughout his career with TMC. He started on July 27, 2015, as a Logistics Sales Representative (LSR) in TMC’s Des Moines, IA branch. Within his first year, Sean was promoted to LSR Team Lead. As a Team Lead, Sean continued to service his customers and increased his book of business all while coaching and developing a team of LSRs. Sean said, “While it increased my workload, I enjoyed coaching and mentoring the LSRs on my team. I was just as proud as my team of LSRs when they had success.” In the spring of 2020, Sean transitioned to a SrLSR which allowed him to focus his efforts on growing the major customers that he established, as well as continue to increase his book of business.
Sean feels his success comes from being honest, constantly communicating, accepting fault when applicable, and always having a sense of urgency when he is asked to go to work for his customers. Sean said, “The average customer will last with a normal transportation provider for about three to five years.” Many of Sean’s Customers have been with him for over five years. He said, “While I’ve had my share of customers drop off for one reason or another, my customers stay with me because of the relationship I’ve built with them.” Sean said he treats every customer with the same prominent level of service, whether they award him three or three hundred loads a year, but, most importantly, keeping each customer’s best interest at the center of all he does.
Sean said, “You must be thorough with everything you do. Be ready for the opportunity because you may not get a second chance. Starting out as an LSR, it is easy to get discouraged, but you never know what that next phone call will bring, and you never know when your next long-term relationship will pop up. You’ll get a few companies that are all about the price. But most are relationship-driven.”
The impact and influence Sean has on the entire TMC network are only a few of the reasons that lead to Sean Degoey being named the Associate of the Third Quarter of 2022.
