Awards & Recognition
As a TMC flatbed driver, Robert Workman has achieved some incredible milestones: 2.1 million safe miles and 20 safe years on the road. For these reasons and more, TMC is proud to recognize Robert as Driver of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2025.
The Start of a Long Career
Robert first started driving for TMC in 2001. He says, “I really wanted to get into flatbedding, and TMC was highly recommended. I thought I could make a career and be treated respectfully. I knew they kept good equipment, and that’s part of staying safe on the road.”
And, he says, everything he had heard about TMC has turned out to be true. Robert has enjoyed working with other TMC drivers and office staff, including his fleet manager, James Crawford. “He’s a good fellow,” Robert says. “I appreciate everything he does for me, and we get along real well. It’s all teamwork out here.”
James agrees and says that Robert is always great to work with. “Mr. Workman is one of the hardest working guys I have had the pleasure of working with,” he says. “He never complains about anything and is always willing to help any way he can. If you give him a load, you can count on it being there safe and on time. I wish I had an entire fleet of Mr. Workman!”
The Value of Slowing Down
And while TMC’s signature top-of-the-line black and chrome Peterbilt trucks may have helped Robert stay safe on the road, his 20 years of safe driving are also a credit to his own commitment to doing things right. He says that the biggest lesson he has learned over the years is simple: slow down.
“I learned a long time ago to slow down—not so much driving, but everything about my day,” he says. “I don’t forget things; I don’t overlook things. I started slowing down and became more efficient. It was actually faster.”
In this spirit, Robert’s advice to new drivers trying to get started in their careers is to “work smart, slow down.” He says he often sees new drivers who are intimidated by the thought of asking questions of more experienced drivers like himself, but he emphasizes that he is always happy to help: “Today a new driver needed help, and he said, ‘Sorry to bother you…’ I said, ‘You’re not bothering me. The only stupid question is the one you didn’t ask.’ Everybody starts somewhere.”
‘No Surprises’ on a Dedicated Route
Since 2010, Robert has driven for TMC’s Dedicated Division. This division provides reliable service for large customers who need flatbed transportation on a regular basis.
Robert says he enjoys driving a dedicated route because it means he knows what to expect each day. “You build a rapport with the people at the customer. They’re good folks. You don’t dread going to this place, because you know somebody there,” he says. “You know the roads you’re going to travel. There are no surprises.”
Two Decades of Excellence

Robert Workman receives a ring commemorating his years of safe driving.
Robert likes the hard work that comes with being a flatbed driver—in fact, he says, it has helped him stay healthy over the years. “Being a truck driver keeps me in shape. They call me the ‘young old man’—I owe a lot of my health to the exercise I get,” he laughs.
And after 20 years of safe driving and excellence, it’s no surprise that Robert was chosen as Driver of the Quarter. But he’s quick to note that he couldn’t have gotten here by himself. “I want to thank TMC and all the staff that have helped me and worked with me to where a day like this could happen,” he says. “I want to thank TMC for being a good enough company that I don’t want to go anywhere.”
When he isn’t on the road, Robert enjoys spending time with his wife of nearly 40 years, Tammy, their children, and their granddaughter. He says his weekends are mostly spent working on “a honey-do list as long as my leg.”
Congratulations to Robert Workman for being named Driver of the Quarter for Q1 of 2025!
