Congratulations to Benjamin Medellin - Driver Trainer of the Month for June 2020

on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 in Awards & Recognition

Benjamin worked in Logistics in the grocery industry before he came to TMC. He realized after a year-long sabbatical through Mexico that he had a passion for driving. He soon found himself working at TMC. This November will mark his fifth year with the Black & Chrome.

Benjamin has excelled at flatbed trucking. He wanted to help new drivers succeed at it too, so he became a driver trainer. “Benjamin’s goal is to provide a positive and safe training experience to all of his trainees,” shared Jeff Geist, Training Coordinator Manager.

Benjamin enjoys being a trainer and watching his trainees succeed. “I love the phone call you get about a month and a half later, when they say ‘Thank you.... The way you trained me, I was able to really be successful with this company.’”

Each trainer has a different style of teaching. Benjamin says he is very upfront and transparent. “I don’t hide anything. I don’t try to make it seem like it’s going to be easy. That’s why people end up lasting, because they see the whole life in the first week.”

Benjamin is currently training his 36th student. He says that people come with all sorts of attitudes towards life, but every person is valuable. “Every personality is different. Just because somebody has a very strong attitude doesn’t mean that they’re not good for the company.” The ability to work with people is an important skill that a trainer must have.

Safety is the most important part of the job to Benjamin. “The thing I like best about being a trainer is that people leave my truck being safe.... As long as they’re safe, it makes me really feel comfortable.”

Benjamin’s positive influence is an asset for him, as well as his trainees. We are happy to recognize his success and contribution to TMC and the industry. Thank you for all your hard work, Benjamin!driver trainer trucking companies near me flatbed training new

Driver trainers are vital to the TMC training department, and each month a trainer is chosen who demonstrates the outstanding qualities TMC looks for in a trainer. The Trainer of the Month recipient is chosen based on their safety record and the safety performance of their trainees, the number of drivers trained, and the retention percentage of those drivers.
