Meet Driver Trainer of April 2020, Warren Jennings!

Warren Jennings has been awarded Driver Trainer of the Month for April 2020. Warren has been training off and on since 2014. “Warren is a reliable trainer and easy to work with. He is always willing to take on any challenge we send his way. Warren has an excellent track record with his trainees staying with the company and maintaining a great safety record,” says Jeff Geist, Training Coordinator Manager.

Jennings is a “second generation driver”, learning a lot about the industry from his dad. Now, he is passing along the treasure of training and so far, has trained 29 drivers. He really enjoys seeing the new guys still trying to figure it all out as they start on day one, to go on and become successful drivers.

When asked what his biggest piece of advice is for his trainees, he said he reminds drivers to “know their route”. Getting lost is frustrating, and wastes precious time. Planning ahead is a valuable discipline and Jennings wants his drivers to know how to practice good trip-planning.

He added that when other drivers are considering becoming trainers, the best quality to have is patience. It takes time for someone to learn a new skill, and the trainer’s role is to help them learn the different aspects of the job. That takes patience and a genuine concern for the trainee’s well-being.

Driver trainers are vital to the TMC Training Department, and each month a trainer is chosen who demonstrates the outstanding qualities TMC looks for in a trainer. The Trainer of the Month recipient is chosen based on their safety record and the safety performance of their trainees, the number of drivers trained and the retention percentage of those drivers.
