Trainer Tuesday: Jack Miller, Trainer of the Month

“I can be home every weekend with my family; I do it for them.” Jack Miller says. Jack Miller was named TMC’s Trainer of the Month for March of 2021. Jack has been in the transportation industry for a little over two years with TMC. He made the switch after working for a moving company for 20 years.

Jack decided to change his focus in the industry from a driver to a trainer for a couple of different reasons, with one being that he was tired of talking to himself all the time. He takes tremendous pride in working for TMC and gains satisfaction knowing new TMC drivers are being trained the right way. 

If you are a current driver thinking about making the switch to a trainer, there are a few things to keep in mind. Jack says to remember that everyone starts somewhere. It is better to repeat yourself several times than forget to relay important information to the trainee. 

And if you’re a trainee coming into your five weeks of training, come into it with an open mind. Jack tells his trainees that for the first six months, you will want to quit two to three days a week, but don’t. Once you get comfortable, you will love it. 

“Jack Miller has been awarded Trainer of the Month for March 2021. Jack has been training for a year now and is doing a great job. Seven of his drivers have graduated and are now driving their own trucks. The drivers he has trained have excellent safety records and have no chargeable accidents or incidents. This is an exceptional statistic, as new drivers are more susceptible to making mistakes. This is attributed to Jack’s focus on safety and quality of training. Jack enjoys having the privilege to train a lot of ex-military individuals. It is his way of expressing his thanks to them. Congratulations again, Jack Miller, on the well-deserved accomplishment of being named TMC’s Trainer of the Month for March of 2021!

Driver Trainers are vital to the TMC Training Department, and each month a trainer is chosen who demonstrates the outstanding qualities TMC looks for in one who prepares new drivers for their career in trucking. The Trainer of the Month recipient is chosen based on their safety record and the safety performance of their trainees, the number of drivers trained, and the retention percentage of those drivers.
