TMC Names Wesley Barber as Driver Trainer of the Month for November 2020

on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 in Awards & Recognition

In 2015, Wesley Barber walked out of the oil fields for the final time after a ten year career. Ready for a new journey, he began looking at transportation companies when he became interested in hauling flatbed freight. Home time is important to Barber, and he noticed that TMC advertises weekend home time for their drivers. In addition to the advantage of weekly home time, TMC’s appearance and top-of-the-line equipment were attractive features that interested Wesley.

It wasn’t long before Wesley got the keys to his own black and chrome Peterbilt. Soon after joining TMC, he became a Driver Trainer in 2016. Initially, the decision to become a trainer was due to the increase in revenue that can come with the added responsibility of training. After a while, Wesley started to enjoy training more than he thought he would. “I enjoy having company in the truck. The companionship is nice. Training, itself, is fun. Every person is different; it is a growing process,” Wesley explains.

When asked about the key competency to being an extraordinary trainer, Wesley mentioned: “I never cease to learn something new with each trainee. You can take something you learned from one trainee and apply it to another trainee. You do not want to see the person you are training fail; no one does. We are going to have ups and downs, but that’s life.” Over the past year, every trainee Wesley has trained successfully has made it to his or her own truck.

“Getting the Trainer of the Month Award is nice. It shows that TMC is appreciative of the work I am doing. Trainer of the Month is one of those things that is high on the list,” Wesley says. “I want to especially thank Cody Burroughs, my Fleet Manager; the entire TMC Training Department; and Jeremy Meyer, Training Coordinator.”

Considering Barber’s success, Training Coordinator Manager, Jeff Geist, says, “The drivers Wesley has trained have excellent safety records. This would be a testament to Wesley’s focus on safety and doing things the right way. Please join me in congratulating Wesley on this outstanding accomplishment!”

Congratulations, Wesley Barber on receiving the honorable distinction of Driver Trainer of the Month for November 2020. We appreciate all the work you do!

Driver Trainers are vital to the TMC Training Department, and each month a Trainer is chosen who demonstrates the outstanding qualities TMC looks for in a Trainer. The Trainer of the Month recipient is chosen based on their safety record and the safety performance of their Trainees, the number of Drivers trained, and the retention percentage of those Drivers.
